#36 (calipers)
Kenneth Steinbach
Shoreview, MN
Title of Work: #36 (calipers)
Artist Website: kennethsteinbach.com
Year Completed: 2009
Size: 2 panels, each 11″ x 13.5″ x 1.5″
Medium: Ink drawings suspended in layers of epoxy resin on aluminum.
Description of Work: The drawings are ink renderings embedded in layers of semi-transparent resin built up on an aluminum ground. The works are created by applying a thin layer of resin to the ground, and drawing on top of the resin. Another layer of resin is then applied over the first, with another layer of drawing. This process is repeated until there are multiple layers of drawings on resin stacked one atop another, making a solid strata of resin in which the drawings are embedded. The resultant works are up to two inches thick, with as many as 70 layers of drawings. The visual space recedes away from the viewer into an atmospheric haze that is highly three dimensional.
